Transformers... it's a SMASH!!!! (Literally!)

While this does not look like it will be a film that goes down well with the critics ("a remake of a cheesy 80's childrens Tv cartoon??? Oh so COMMON!!!") it looks almost certain to be a huge hit with audiences everywhere. Starting tomorrow, the high-octane action epic Transformers opens globally and it seems a sure fire box-office win!
Starring no one you would care to remember and directed by well who the hell really looks anyway besdies obsessed fans - Transformers has hit upon just the right formula... no really!
Lacking the continuously shifting plotline BS of Pirates of the Caribbean 3, the played-for-laughs momentum of Shrek the Third, the one-villain-too-many complex sported by Spiderman 3, and the well, whatever it was that Fantastic Four 2 has/had, Transformers has a whole lot of action and energy.
A cohesive, creative and easy to follow plot meshes effortlessly with a large ensemble of characters - human and otherwise - in the screen battle of the year. Not since Independence Day has there been a movie with such explosive (EXPLOSIVE!!!) content.
Basic plot, life on earth progresses just as it does now - we're quirky messed up humans both humble and powerful - until the arrival of a series of collosal robots (Transformers... get it?) capable of assuming various shapes as suits their environment and their need - be it for speed or 'splosions!
Some of these robots are out to get us and nick our planet. Some are here to stop them - and not just because they're kind... um, hearted?
Ridiculous to explain and pointless to bother!
Transformers has to (and SHOULD) be seen to be believed. Don't expect no sophistication! This is your genuine all out effects and the actors just play along (capably) blockbuster. The advantage of this one - so far lacking in SOME releases that could be mentioned this year! - is that the script is halfway decent and the storyline is realistic... well it will do!
If you hadn't planned to already, go see Transformers. It won't let you down! Just be warned, its big, its loud and it pulls no punches. This is one for the DVD collection. Go see it.
