Star on the rise: Kate Mara
November 7th 2008 00:49
She's not a big name yet, but Kate Mara has been acting since the age of nine and has more than ten feature films under her belt. Not that she really needs to be successful - her family owns two major American football teams, the New York Giants and the Pittsburgh Steelers. I predict that she will be successful, however, due to the combination of her girl-next-door good looks and considerable acting ability. She's also a smart cookie: she graduated high school a year early and was accepted into the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, but decided to pursue her acting career instead.
Kate Mara's film debut was in the 1999 flick Random Hearts, co-starring Harrison Ford and directed by Sydney Pollack. She next appeared in award-winning films Joe the King and Tadpole, but it wasn't until 2005's Brokeback Mountain that Mara really drew attention. Playing Heath Ledger's daughter in this film was both a pivotal and star-making role for her. She went on to star in the 2007 action film Shooter, where she had the chance to show off her sexy side.
Kate travels from LA to New York often, and once stated that "if I could live in New York, I would." The 25-year-old grew up there and frequently saw Broadway shows as a child, which led to her love of the acting profession. She'll next be seen starring opposite Justin Timberlake in the 2008 film The Open Road, and in 2009's Flying Lessons. Keep an eye on this one - Kate Mara is most definitely a star on the rise!
