Star on the rise: Isabel Lucas
July 31st 2008 00:53
23-year-old Australian actress Isabel Lucas is making waves, both in Hollywood and... in Japan. There is much more to this girl than just a pretty face - she's becoming known for her environmental activism, particularly in the plight of saving whales from Japanese hunters.
In October last year she (and fellow actress Hayden Panettiere) took part in a protest against whaling in Wakayama, Japan, where a group of 30 activists paddled out of their surfboards to attempt to stop the local fisherman from carrying out their hunt.
Lucas even welcomed the idea of being arrested for the stunt. "It could be a positive thing," she told journalists. "We do risk being arrested... we were aware of that being a possibility when we were there. But if we up the ante and have a lot more support...then it's unlikely that they will want to be drawing more attention to the issue."
Her role as Tasha Andrews in local soap Home and Away helped launch her acting career, and she moved to Los Angeles earlier this year to work on several projects, including Daybreakers with Ethan Hawke, and Transformers 2 with Shia LaBeouf. She accidently made headlines this week when she was Labeouf's passenger in a car accident that led to his truck rolling. She will also be appearing in Steven Spielberg's WWII miniseries The Pacific, scheduled for release next year.
Her boyfriend is Entourage star Adrien Grenier, and the two have been an item for several months, appearing at red carpet events together and looking very much the happy couple. Isabel Lucas is not a paparazzi target, yet - but may have to get used to seeing photographers as her star continues to rise in Hollywood.
