Scarlett Johansson named best on Broadway

Voluptuous Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson has received a Tony award for her work on Broadway. The 25-year-old won the Best Actress Tony for her starring debut in Arthur Miller's A View From The Bridge, alongside fellow Hollywood veteran Liev Schreiber. "Being welcomed into this community has been a dream come true for me," said the young star breathlessly as she accepted the prestigious award last night. "Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to be on Broadway, and here I am."
Johansson, best known for her on-screen roles in films such as Match Point, Lost in Translation, The Island and Vicky Cristina Barcelona, also expressed her gratitude to "the Canadian I live with" - her husband and fellow actor Ryan Reynolds.
"Thank you for being a theatre widower for me," she said from the great stage of New York's Radio City Music Hall.
Johansson joins a slew of other Hollywood actors who have taken to the Broadway stage of late, perhaps in an effort to prove to the world that they are "serious" actors.
While some have had great success on the stage (such as Catherine Zeta Jones and Denzel Washington, who both received Tony awards for their respective plays) others have not been as fortunate. Katie Holmes' turn in Arthur Miller's All My Sons received mixed reviews, while Aussie actor Hugh Jackman and the current James Bond, Daniel Craig, both missed out on nominations for their roles in A Steady Rain, despite their play being a smashing success at the box office.
