Oscars 2008: Best and Worst Dressed
February 28th 2008 09:16
With the Oscars finally wrapped up for another year, it's time to decide who looked best - and worst - on the red carpet. There were no standouts as far as bad dressing was concerned, just some stars who could have tried a little harder to impress on Hollywood's night of nights. As for the best, there were many, and we saw several style trends emerging, from one-shoulder dresses to old school glamour hairstyles, and the always stylish bright red dress. Here, some of the best:
Katherine Heigl looked truly amazing in her red Escada gown, her hair done to perfection and her makeup and jewellery complementing her dress in every way. Love the tiny Jimmy Choo clutch.
Hilary Swank also looked divine, in a black mermaid-inspired one-shoulder Versace dress. This is a risk that paid off - she could have looked too over-the-top, but the neat hair and minimal jewellery prevented that from happening.
Always classy at red-carpet events, Renee Zellweger dazzled the crowd in her silver strapless Carolina Herrera gown. Showing off her svelte figure, her hair and makeup were natural and accessories minimal, allowing the dress to take centre stage.
And now for the worst:
She got the hair and makeup right, but Ellen Page's frumpy Jean Louis Scherrer dress did nothing for her, and her jewellery is outdated and too simple. At her age she should be showing off her figure, not hiding it under too much black fabric!
What was she thinking? Past-the-elbow pink gloves are not a good accessory for a ruched maroon cocktail dress, and that orange ribbon doesn't look too crash hot either. Her hair looks too stiff and 'done' and overall this look just doesn't work for the 60s glamazon.
Tilda Swinton, in my opinion, tops the worst-dressed list: her shapeless black Lanvin gown makes her look like she's wearing a garbage bag. The one long sleeve just looks weird, and with very little makeup her face appears gaunt and pale. Here's hoping she tries a little harder next year!
