One to see: What Happens in Vegas (2008)

I always rate a movie on how enjoyable it is to watch. Sure, things like casting, acting, soundtrack and scripts are important, but if a movie makes you feel good watching it, this supercedes all the technical aspects. What Happens in Vegas is one of these films. It's wry, it's funny, it's sexy and it packs a punch that you don't really expect from your average Hollywood film.
The lead actors are at their best when in romantic comedy mode. Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz have so much chemistry, at times you feel you could cut the sexual tension onscreen with a knife. If you've seen the trailer, you know the basic storyline: two New Yorkers who are opposites in every way get married in Vegas whilst highly intoxicated. They go to annul the marriage the next morning but things get complicated when $3 million steps into the picture. The judge sentences them to "six months hard marriage" during which all manner of nasty tricks take place.
It sounds a bit oddball but the way the film is set up, you can believe that it might actually happen. Exposition is important in films like this, as is the need for the audience to connect with the characters, and What Happens in Vegas does not disappoint. I could see myself and my friends being in Diaz's situation - perhaps not with someone as gorgeous as Ashton Kutcher, but I digress...
There are some very funny one-liners and the supporting cast are just as good as the leads. It's one of those rare films that both men and women will find entertaining. The soundtrack is vibrant and modern, featuring the likes of Mika and Jet. The ending is predictable but sweet, and leaves you laughing with what really happened that night in Vegas....
