One to miss: Premonition (2007)
June 24th 2008 04:31
For a movie that is meant to be a thriller, Premonition leaves its audience less than thrilled - in fact, many would be asking for the last two hours of their lives back. Starring Sandra Bullock and Julian McMahon, this film is a confusing mess from beginning to end, with so many plot holes that it starts to seem a tad silly.
Linda Hanson (Bullock) is an ordinary housewife, who one day gets the shocking news that her husband Jim (McMahon) has died in a car accident. When she wakes the next morning to find Jim eating breakfast, she's disturbed by how real her (supposed) dream felt - and even more disturbed when she wakes up the following day to find that Jim is, in fact, dead. After a while she realises that she's living her days out of order, and that what she is seeing is a premonition of the future - and so begins a race against time as she tries to change fate.
While the lead actors do a good job with the rather boring script they're given, the film itself entirely lacks suspense of any kind. The audience begins to tire of Bullock's breathless rushing around, and there's a scene with a priest that atheists will find pathetic - what's implied is that the reason Linda is experiencing this nightmare is because of her loss of religious faith.
Perhaps worst of all, however, is the ending - I won't give it away for those of you who may still want to see this movie, but it's possibly the worst ending of a film I've ever seen. It makes the events of the entire movie seem pointless - there's no hope, no optimism, nothing. It leaves you wondering, why did she even bother? So do yourself a favour and give this one a miss. You'll save yourself time, money and avoid feeling bored and empty by this sad excuse for a film.
