Nicole Kidman and her fear of death
October 31st 2008 02:51
Nicole Kidman told a US magazine that her baby daughter Sunday Rose makes her feel "raw and emotional" and that she has a fear of dying and missing her daughter growing up. "It's very bittersweet," Kidman told Parade magazine. "Because, at 41, I think, 'I want to see her 21st birthday, and I want to see her get married.'
"My relationship with death used to be far more ambivalent, I think, and now it's very much about staying in the world. That's why in the past I could jump out of planes and take a lot of risks."
But wait a second... doesn't she already have children? What about her adopted children Bella and Connor, who are now in their teens? Here's her answer: "Strangely enough, I think when you have children at 25, you still have that 'what will be, will be' attitude," said the Hollywood star. "It's such a different way of parenting," she adds.
The actress said she gets teary just thinking about Sunday because this is the baby she thought she might never have.
"They are tears of joy," Kidman said. And then: "I think giving birth to a child, as a woman, is what we're born to do. I don't mean that to sound sexist, because many women don't get to do it, and I thought I was one of them. But at the same time, if you are given that gift, it's an extraordinary thing."
If I was Bella or Connor I'd be feeling pretty small right about now. It seems strange to me, also, that Kidman would give such a revealing interview, especially as she's been hiding her baby daughter from the prying eyes of the public. What do you think?
