Natalie Portman comes into her womanhood
December 3rd 2009 00:30
She's got a degree from Harvard, speaks four languages and is one of the hottest stars in Hollywood, and now Natalie Portman is ready to take on her next challenge: motherhood! Okay, so there's no babies in her immediate future, but the stunning 28-year-old admits that she does think about having children from time to time. She got to try on the role of being a mother of two in her most recent film Brothers - starring alongside Tobey Maguire and Jake Gyllenhaal - and said she felt right at home. A sign of things to come, perhaps?
Said Portman, "I feel like I'm coming into my womanhood, and I'm less afraid or maybe I'm just getting old. I think about having kids, but I think you can't plan for that sort of thing. It's not like you can work at it."
As for her first movie role as a mother, the Golden Globe winner said that she was immediately drawn to the strong character of Grace Cahill in Brothers, due to the fact that it was a step away from the standard movie roles available to actresses in their twenties. "It was such a fantastic opportunity because so many parts written for females my age are just, like, the cute, girlish love interest," Portman said.
"To get to play a real woman who's really strong and a good mother was really a great opportunity. It was not that challenging to be mother-ish because I have the most maternal mom in the world. So I've had a role model for my entire life."
Brothers opens across the USA on December 4th, and an Australian release date has not been set. As the trailer shows, what begins as a character-driven drama becomes something else entirely... and insiders say that it could well be a major contender for next year's Academy Awards.

That reminds me, she's also a dancer - her next film is Black Swan in which she plays a ballerina. Looking forward to that one! Thanks for the comments Peter and Morgan.
