'The Simpsons' to get the axe

October 9th 2011 14:39
Sad news for Simpsons fans... after more than two decades and 488 episodes, the iconic TV show looks to be on its last legs. According to Fox executives, the show is no longer profitable as a first-run series and as such will probably come to a close sometime in 2012.

This time, the rumours are true

October 4th 2011 06:34
... or at least, it certainly looks like they are! In July last year I blogged about the long-awaited Arrested Development movie being, in the words of Will Arnett, "on like Donkey Kong" - fast forward fifteen months or so and that rumour appears to have been confirmed.

New Arrested Development episodes and movie coming soon!
And it's not just a movie... there's new episodes in the pipeline too.

Every now and then, a talented actor or actress will drop off the Hollywood radar and I start to wonder what's been happening in their world. Most of the time they're either taking a break from the craziness to focus on their private lives, or are deeply involved in a movie project that is taking years to create. With Julia Stiles, it's the latter - she's currently working on a film adaptation of The Bell Jar, and has been since 2007. Stiles will not only be playing the lead character of Esther Greenwood, but will also be taking on the role of producer for the film, which is scheduled for a 2012 release.

Joaquin Phoenix film confirmed as a hoax

September 17th 2010 01:11
Confirming what most people who have seen I'm Still Here had already suspected, filmmaker Casey Affleck has publicly admitted that Joaquin Phoenix's apparent craziness in the 'documentary' has all been a hoax. Affleck, who is Phoenix's brother-in-law, told The New York Times that Joaquin had given "the performance of his life" after more than eighteen months of pretending to have gone off the rails after an ill-fated transition from actor to rapper.

Hollywood to ban stereotypes?

August 15th 2010 16:42
In what looks to be one of those "I'll believe it when I see it" scenarios, a major Hollywood studio is said to have banned the stereotyping of certain nationalities in their upcoming films, in an effort to stop offending their foreign audiences. According to Britain's Sunday Times, Paramount Pictures has specified in its marketing notes to prospective filmmakers that they will be more likely to give a film the go-ahead if its villains don't correspond to a particular nationality.

Fans of the critically acclaimed TV show Arrested Development, which was taken off the air in 2006 after three seasons, can now look forward to seeing the much-loved Bluth family together again: this time on the big screen! According to GQ, who recently caught up with the show's star Will Arnett, the movie is "on like Donkey Kong" and will feature every cast member from the pulled-too-soon series.

It's every Lord of the Rings fan's dream come true (well, almost)... after the recent exit of Guillermo Del Toro as director of the upcoming two-part movie version of The Hobbit, speculation is rife that the new director will be none other than Peter Jackson himself! While the rumours are yet to be confirmed, according to deadline.com it's looking more than a bit likely that Mr Jackson will be taking on the top job himself once again.

Will he or won't he? Peter Jackson is keeping it under wraps... for now.

Hobbit director quits

May 31st 2010 23:32
Famed director Guillermo del Toro, who was set to take the helm of the upcoming Hobbit movie, has quit. In what he called "the hardest decision of my life", del Toro told fans that the considerable delays involved with getting the epic film underway meant that he was experiencing clashes with other film projects, and had little choice but to pull out of the Lord of the Rings prequel.

Scream 4. This is happening.

May 28th 2010 00:04
"New decade. New rules." That's the tagline for the fourth installment of the Scream movie franchise, and according to director Wes Craven, is "very much a keynote of the film." Like many of us, Craven and his associates are cynical about the seemingly endless array of sequels that follow successful thrillers these days (think Saw, or Final Destination), and he addresses this annoying phenomenon - jokingly, of course - in the upcoming Scream 4, which is due to begin production at the end of next month.

Product placements in Hollywood films are nothing new. Neither are celebrity endorsements. But even a rather cynical chick like myself was shocked to read just how blatant commercialism in films is becoming, when I took a sneaky peek at the hype surrounding the Sex and the City 2 movie due for release at the end of next month. It seems that film producers are no longer even trying to hide the extent of their product placements: instead, they're actually bragging about it and what's worse, audiences are so desensitized that by now they barely even notice that the movie they're watching is just one big advertisement thinly disguised as a film.

A nude scene for Harry Potter?

December 8th 2009 22:08
Daniel Radcliffe is no stranger to performing in the buff, but he's certainly never done it as Harry Potter! According to reports, however, there will be not one, but two nude scenes for the young wizard in Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows. Radcliffe, 20, is very comfortable with nude scenes but I'm not so sure about his audience... it will definitely be interesting to see how the filmmakers manage to pull this off while keeping the family-friendly vibe of the film series intact.

News on Hollywood's Hobbit

October 14th 2009 05:02
Sir Ian McKellen, better known as Gandalf to fans of the Lord of the Rings series, recently had a chat with Empire Magazine about his upcoming projects. He'll be donning the wizard's garb once again in the two film versions of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, the first of which is due out in December 2011. It's a long way off, but already has diehard Tolkien fans anticipating a cinematic masterpiece.

And then there were three...

October 10th 2009 06:01
Given the recent surge in "third movie" installments, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Hollywood has been running out of ideas! The latest franchise to fall victim to the dreaded three is Ghostbusters, which is set to begin production on its third installment in a matter of months. Despite the fact that the sequel came out two decades ago, almost the entire original cast has been signed on for the third movie, and rumour has it that the original director Ivan Reitman will be taking the helm once again.
