Mischa Barton under psychiatric care

Troubled Hollywood starlet and fashion icon Mischa Barton has been hospitalised for what a friend calls "personal issues." The 23-year-old actress was to attend the premiere of her newest movie Homecoming but, according to her rep, "has been hospitalised per the recommendation of her doctor and is resting in the hospital." According to reports, she is under psychiatric hold at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
This hospitalisation is not unexpected. Barton has been a regular on the Hollywood party circuit for the last few months, and her extreme weight fluctuations signalled that she may still be dealing with the same drug problems that have plagued her since she became a household name as Marissa Cooper on The O.C. In December 2007 she was arrested for DUI, marijuana possession and driving without a license, and was also snapped by paparazzi several times smoking what appeared to be marijuana. Said a friend recently, "I don't know if she really ever gave up some of the bad habits that had gotten out of control a couple years back."
In addition, her string of relationships with famous musicians - including Cisco Adler, Taylor Locke and Luke Pritchard - exposed her to the darker side of La-La Land, and may have influenced her already hard-partying lifestyle.
Despite her personal problems, Barton is well respected within the industry and is known for being a consummate professional on set. Homecoming producer Austin Stark described her as being "a nice young girl, she never said anything mean to anyone, and she wasn’t late on-set or anything like that." He told journalists, "I wish her all the best. First and foremost, we want her to get healthy again."
