It's About Time!
August 8th 2007 14:11
Hairspray and Stardust star and comeback queen of 2007 Michelle Pfeiffer yesterday was present at the unveiling of her own star on the Hollywood walk of fame.
She's been a star since the early 1980's (Grease 2 [1982], Scarface [1983]) so frankly this news is little more than a surprising blip in the days news. The question that instantly comes to mind is, why didn't she already have one?
The three time Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner was one of the most popular, recogniseable and beautiful leading ladies of the 80's and 90's.
Surely if Hollywood couldn't give her an Oscar they could have easily managed a star on the Hollywood walk of fame years ago!
Though she disappeared from the big screen in 2003, the 49 year old actress has made 2007 her comeback year, with three movies due for release and a fourth on its way for 2008.
Hairspray (the latest US hit musical movie) and Stardust are both due on Australian screens in September, and having seen the first of those two movies I can only hope that her character in the second is as delicious as it looks in the teaser trailer!
The third of her releases, I Could Never be Your Woman is by all appearances a somewhat tepid arthouse romance with an otherwise somewhat uninspired cast.
Still, it's Michelle's first lead since What Lies Beneath, so I will be interested to see it early in 2008 - which is no doubt when the powers that be will decide to release it Down Under.
In the meantime, congratulations go to the blonde beauty along with a sincere desire that she have a long and successful career - Hollywood needs her kind of talent, grace and class.
