Michael Jackson, the movie: coming soon!
August 11th 2009 05:59
A Los Angeles judge has given the go-ahead for Columbia Pictures to produce a movie based on the life of the recently deceased King of Pop. The production company reportedly paid US$60 million for the rights to the film, which they say will be in cinemas as early as October 2009.
Hundreds of hours of rehearsal footage from Jackson's planned comeback tour will be pared down into a feature-length film. The Jackson family will be given a screening of the movie prior to its release, to allow them to censor any parts of it that they believe place Michael in a negative light. In addition, 90% of the film's profits will go toward the deceased King of Pop's estate.
The Jackson family's attorney, Howard Weitzman, described the deals put together as being "outstanding, unique, once-in-a-lifetime deals which would bring substantial revenues to the estate."
The release date for the film has not been set, but is expected to be at the end of October this year.
