Mel B and Eddie M and the baby that never was?
June 14th 2007 13:44
Its a story thats been doing the rounds for a while now and its amazed pretty much everyone from the very beginning. There's bitch slapping, cat fighting, celebrity mad slinging, paternity issues, relationship brawls and thats only the beginning of the fun in this doozy!
There's quite a bit of backstory so lets go back to a happier time, October last year, when the Oscar nominations were yet to be announced, Dreamgirls was yet to prove itself the most disappointing movie of 2006 and The Departed was the word on the street.
Eddie Murphy and former Spice Girl Mel B(rown) were high up the celebrity radar as the soon to be "it" couple in the UK and Hollywood as they canoodled together in a variety of locations, openly displaying their affection for the cameras.
Complications arise when Mel B, looking radiant, dares to go on TV and state just how much in love and just how happy she and her new man are - oh and to top it all off she was pregnant and E Murph was the daddy and that they couldn't wait to be a real and devoted couple.
Murphy was on tour in the States to hype Dreamgirls and what was his response? He and Mel B were not in love nor were they together and he most certainly did not know anything about a baby! Baby? What baby? And who is this Mel Brown you speak of?
BASTARD!
Well Mel didn't let it get her down. Despite rumours that Eddie had dumped her early on in the piece due to wild lesbian orgies and voodoo and every other outrageous act in the book (anyone else smell a rat there?) she found herself a new man, settled down, had her baby and got on with life.
However, she refused to deny that Eddie Murphy was not the father, appearring on British tabloid OK! magazine's cover in a beautiful picture with her baby she proudly trumpeted that both she and Eddie knew he was the father and that he was only embarassing himself with his behaviour.
Despite earlier claims that he would willingly submit to a DNA test to prove the childs paternity once and for all, Eddie decided that he just wouldn't return Mel's calls. Not long after that he lost the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his electrifying role in Dreamgirls - and though he may be a BASTARD! I still say he was robbed!
As of June 11 he was due to appear in a Las Angeles courtroom to deal with the question of baby Angel Iris' paternity. As of yet nothing has emerged as to the results of this live courtroom drama. Naturally the tests will take time to come back but it would be nice to see Angel Iris actually have a father. Perhaps that's something Eddie Murphy has forgotten in all the egomania... there is actually a little baby involved.
Good luck to you Mel B. You don't need this court case to restore your dignity. You've done the impossible and kept it intact all along.

Word is yet to penetrate as to what the results of the paternity test were... not that there is an real doubt! Say hi Daddy!
