Lindsay Lohan: A Series of Unfortunate Events

May 20th 2007 05:55
As part of their feverishly active 2007 campaign to destroy the reputation of actress Lindsay Lohan, the American papparazzi may have just bitten off more than they can chew. Little Lindz has shown an uncharacteristically sober display of spunk by refusing to balk under the pressure of a lawsuit brought by photographer (the term is used loosely... do not mistake said cheese-shot-snapper for an artist!) Giovanni Arnold.
Arnold claims La Lohan ran him down in the valet lane of the Hotel Gansevoort in New York - you can check out the video online almost anywhere!
The incident of Arnold's claim runs something like this...

Lindsay Lohan, noted party girl, hits Manhattan one night for a bit of party party. Naturally the cameras are out in force and so Lindz, having partied on, decides enough is enough and hops into Mommies BMW - Mommy naturally was with her at the time - and speeds back to the hotel. A downright dangerous car chase (!!!!) follows through the streets of New York before Lindz pulls up out front of the Hotel Gansevoort... to find her car being surrounded by photographers all merrily snapping away.
What happened next is unclear. EITHER Lindz eased the car forward and Giovanni Arnold, perched on the bonnet snapping photo's through the windscreen, "slipped" down in front of the car, OR Lindz had enough, put to the peddle to the metal and squashed the sonofabitch like a bug!
La Lohan claims the former to be correct, the latter version belongs to Arnold.
Oh the humanity of it all!
The papparazzi have historically been quite averse to celebrities striking back. See infamous incident where Tommy Lee Jones laid into a photographer outside an L.A. club. Given the media's out-and-out anti-Lohan campaign - and lets face it she's not exactly been making things easier for herself! - blacklisting doesn't even cover how the photographers of the tabloid world will think of Little Lindz right now!

Her response: "[What happened to Princess] Diana will happen again!" Credit where credits due, that takes balls!
Indeed if handled with maturity and dignity (and that'll be the day!) this incident may indeed be the making of Lindsay Lohan the actress in the public image. Admitedly she's far from being in Vogue with anyone just now, but if there's one creature on earth the world's population hates more than a spoiled and self-indulgent diva-in-training its a member of the papparazzi cult!
The situation in L.A. is reportedly growing downright ugly. This is hardly news. The underground L.A. mob wars reputedly make Iraq look like a weekend in the country! Now the focus seems to be on the people with the cameras and their relationships to the stars.
Since Hollywoodland first came into being in the 1920's, there have been cameras flashing catching out the deeds and misdeeds of the stars. Naturally since we put them there we get to know everything about them - it's just how fame works.
In the last couple of decades, however, the situation has become somewhat grim... as in Pol Pot was somewhat of an eccentric!
The numbers of the photographers working out of agencies to supply pictures to the ever-increasing ranks of the tabloid rag-mags has apparantly multiplied by ten in L.A. alone, the ranks of this army out to get shots of the stars at their worst (...best?) filling with ex-cons, illegal immigrants from south of the border and moonlighting mobsters out for a quick buck. Catching that one lucky shot can make you - and your agency - a small fortune!
Pics of Ange and Brad can net up to half a million and exclusives of stars on the town with a new love or in a sticky situation can incite frantic bidding wars amongst gossip magazines. The result has been a rash of reckless acts by cameramen out to compete in a bloodthirsty world that never sleeps - the vampire reference is intentional!
There have been stalking incidents, random acts of violence and car accidents aplenty - though admittedly they have been minor so far.
The stars have responded by beefing up their security teams (now an essential accessory) with ex-LAPD members, not exactly noted for their gentle mannerisms!
Lohan's claim that worse is bound to come is rather obvious, but it shows that the girl does indeed have SOME guts, especially in the face of a lawsuit claiming "unspecified damages" which could run up quite a price tag for the embattled starlet if she is found guilty.
In the meantime it can only be hoped that she sticks to her guns and fights. Clearly something has to be done.
L.A. seems set for quite a showdown, betwen the "paps" and their prey. Whichever way it turns, undoubtedly it will all be caught on camera.
