Kristen Stewart on the downside of fame

May 7th 2010 04:06
Three years ago, most of us didn't even know who Kristen Stewart was. Now, the star of the Twilight saga is one of the most famous faces in Hollywood, and is hounded by paparazzi wherever she goes. Unfortunately for Stewart, she's never been a fame-whore and as such, has found the intrusions on her privacy most alarming: she recently labelled the actions of Hollywood photographers "insane" and "f-ing dangerous".

"It's insane!" said the 20-year-old. "Once somebody finds out, you have to get the hell out of wherever you are. People freak out. And the photographers, they're vicious. They're mean. They're like thugs. I don't even want to drive around by myself anymore. It's f-ing dangerous."

Stewart has been accused of appearing sullen at publicity events, but says that it's the discomfort of being shouted at by photographers that makes her less than smiley. "It's not that I'm miserable, it's just that somebody's yelling at me," she says. "I literally, sometimes, have to keep myself from crying. It's a physical reaction to the energy that's thrown at you."

As for her personal life, Stewart says that she keeps silent on her relationships because she knows that if you give an inch, the tabloid media will take a mile. "People say, 'Just say who you're dating. Then people will stop being so ravenous about it.' It's like, 'No they won't! They'll ask for specifics.'"

"I would never cheapen my relationships by talking about them."

With the two final Twilight movies - Eclipse and Breaking Dawn - yet to be released, it looks as though Kristen has no choice but to remain in the media spotlight for years to come. Until she's been replaced by the 'next big thing', she'll continue to be looked upon as a public commodity, an icon, and a focus of others' obsession.... kind of makes the whole fame game seem a bit less appealing, now doesn't it?
