Katie Holmes defends her family
March 6th 2009 22:52
In an interview with US magazine Glamour, Katie Holmes has defended her family and said that motherhood has made her stronger and wiser. The wife of Hollywood legend Tom Cruise and mother of 2-year-old Suri said that her husband was "extremely supportive" when it came to dealing with rumours surrounding their family - especially the one that suggested that Suri was the child of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, and another that claimed she did not even exist!
"Some of the stuff [people said] was such absolutely horrible things to say about a child. It was so uncalled for and so disgusting. Enough is enough," said the actress. "I definitely felt like – as a woman, as the mother of Suri – I want to handle this! My mom is very strong, and if anyone ever said anything about any of us, she would be, 'Excuse me? That's my family!"
Holmes said that as a first-time mother, she was extremely nervous and very protective of her young daughter. "During the first couple of days [with Suri], we would just sleep right next to her to make sure she was breathing. And I was constantly learning on the job, but Tom was very helpful and supportive."
She also believes that motherhood has made her a more robust person, saying that it "has been the most amazing experience – in an instant you become strong. You have to be a little bit wiser; it's the most important job in the world."
Asked whether she and Tom were planning to add to their family, Holmes did not comment but said "I'm not pregnant right now."
