Johnny Depp: No Hollywood for my kids!

October 14th 2009 23:59
Hollywood legend Johnny Depp has told Germany's Joy magazine that he hopes his children decide not to follow in his footsteps. The 46-year-old father of two has always been wary of the industry that made him famous, and has now said that his "greatest fear" is that his two children will want to become actors.

“One thing is certain - neither of them will ever get bored," the star says of his 10-year-old daughter Lily-Rose, and seven-year-old son Jack. "I always show them my various costumes and they love it. My children seem to take my job for granted. But I honestly hope that Lily-Rose and Jack don’t want to become actors - that’s my greatest fear!” he admitted.

The children have always lived a very non-Hollywood life, with Depp deliberately choosing to base his family in France - about as far away from La-La Land as you can get! Their mother and Depp's longtime partner, French model and singer Vanessa Paradis, has also been more than happy to stay away from the crazy Hollywood scene, making only rare appearances alongside Depp at his movie premieres and other major film industry events.

And while Depp appreciates his critical acclaim as an actor, he's always maintained that Hollywood stars do not deserve their level of celebrity, and that such fame is accompanied by too many downsides. To Depp, being a good father is the most important thing in his life.

“I'm just an actor and not a hero," he said. "It doesn’t make any sense to me that I should leave the world anything. To me only one thing is really important - I want my children to be proud of me."

Well, it's only Johnny Depp's personal will, journeywoman. Maybe his children have different thoughts...

Yes, if they really want to become actors I'm sure he's not the kind of man who would absolutely refuse to allow it. With both parents in entertainment it's quite likely that one or the other would have performing in their genes... it's just his wish that they don't have to learn the downsides of fame the hard way. We'll wait and see what happens!
