Is Lindsay Lohan the next Marilyn Monroe?

She'd certainly like to think so! The 23-year-old actress has dressed up as the legendary 1950s pinup for Spanish Vogue magazine, appearing on both the cover and in a photo spread within the mag.
"She loved it," said hairstylist Andy LeCompte, who styled Miss Lohan's blonde wig for the shoot. "She was putting on such a character. She’s always game to experiment with that.”
There's no denying the resemblance between the two actresses, though diehard Marilyn fans may be a little put out with Lohan taking on the persona of their beloved icon. It's not the first time she's done it, either: last year she recreated Monroe's famous 1962 nude photo shoot "The Last Sitting" for New York Magazine. The sexy shots were taken on film, rather than digitally, by the very same man who photographed Marilyn in her last-ever shoot, Bert Stern. He said in 2008 that he was interested in Lohan because he suspected “she had a lot more depth to her” than one might assume from “those teenage movies.”
Regardless of what you think of the photographic recreations, it's obvious that the two stars have a lot in common. As Amanda Fortini from New York Magazine delicately phrased it, Lohan's "prodigious fame is not quite commensurate with her professional achievements" and "Lohan has, like Monroe, a knack for courting the tabloids and tripping up her career."
And like Monroe, she's a bit of a wild child: her hard-partying ways and reckless attitude towards life may just become her undoing. After all, she's been arrested for cocaine possession and has already been in rehab three times. But when it is suggested that the young star may meet the same fate as her icon, she insists that this will not be the case: "I sure as hell wouldn’t let it happen to me.”
Only time will tell.
