Inferno director stands by his leading lady

Before she was sentenced to 90 days in jail and a further 90 days in rehab after that, Lindsay Lohan was set to play 1970s porn star Linda Lovelace in the upcoming biopic Inferno. But although her imprisonment will delay the start of filming for more than six months, director Matthew Wilder is adamant that no-one but Lindsay has what it takes to play Ms Lovelace. He told the LA Times via email yesterday that he was "not moving on, not re-casting, not under any circumstances," showing impressive loyalty to the troubled 24-year-old actress.
Wilder said that, despite the film being "fully financed [and] prepared to go", he was willing to wait for Lindsay to face her demons before she proceeds with her acting commitments. There is a possibility that Lohan's sentence may be shortened, but she's unlikely to be returning to a movie set anytime this year, especially as she deals with the media frenzy that will undoubtedly follow her release from jail and rehab.
Lohan's sentence may have caused an initial setback for Wilder and his crew, but in my opinion it will have greatly increased the chances of Inferno becoming a box office success. What better way to gain publicity for a dark and sexy film than to have its leading lady being even more famous for bad behaviour than she already was?
