Hayden Panettiere hits the big time
April 23rd 2008 04:31
Hayden Panettiere has only just become a household name, but has been on the acting and modelling circuit since she was 5 months old, when she did her first commercial for Playskool. Since then, she has appeared in numerous TV shows and films, including a recurring role on Malcolm in the Middle and in the lead role as Britney in Bring it On: All or Nothing. She also appeared in Remember the Titans, Racing Stripes, Shanghai Kiss and as the voice of Dot in A Bug's Life, but is probably most recognisable as Claire Bennet, the highschool cheerleader with regenerative powers on the hit TV show Heroes.
One of the 'cleaner' starlets to come out of Hollywood, Hayden is known for her hard-working attitude and her passion for animal rights. In October 2007 she participated in the actions of the Sea Shepherd to try to stop the annual dolphin hunt in Japan. On January 28, 2008, Panettiere handed a letter of protest to the Norwegian ambassador in the United States arguing that Norway should stop its unsustainable hunt for whales. She also delivered a letter to the Japanese ambassador calling for the end of Japan's "scientific hunt" of whales. In addition to her activism, Hayden is a strict vegetarian.
Says Hayden of growing up in the public eye, "You go on these Internet blogs and people say the meanest things. I'm a normal person. Just because I'm in the spotlight doesn't mean I'm God's gift to the world. I'm learning and making mistakes just like every other 17-year-old girl out there." Now 18, the down-to-earth actress appears not to have made many mistakes - her life and career are on the up and up. We'll be seeing a lot more of Hayden on the silver screen this year, with several new film projects including Fireflies in the Garden, I Love You Beth Cooper and Daydream Nation.
