Avatar: the novel?

Taking a story from the page to the screen is now more popular than ever before, but every now and then someone will switch things around and turn a movie into a book - and that's exactly what legendary Hollywood director James Cameron is doing right now. The commercial and critical success of his 2009 film Avatar has inspired Cameron to transform the amazing visual world of Pandora into the written word, because "there are things you can do in books that you can't do with films," he said at a New York reception earlier this week.
The movie version of Avatar has received nine separate Oscar nominations, and last month became the highest grossing film of all time. It beat out Cameron's 1997 masterpiece, Titanic, in taking that honour.
With the visual 3D effects being a major element of the film's success, it will be interesting to see how popular the book version becomes. Cameron said the book will follow the film version "quite closely" as far as the plot is concerned, but will also include "interior monologues" and provide more details about each of the characters, and a lot more information about Pandora.
With Cameron only having just confirmed that he is writing the novel, it will likely be a year or two before it becomes available to buy.
