It's only a rumour at this stage, but several newspapers have reported that Angelina Jolie has been asked to play Catwoman in the next Batman movie. With the recent box office success of The Dark Knight, this could be just the role she needs to prove that, even after having children, she's still one of the sexiest women alive. Julie Newmar, the original Catwoman, agrees.
"Angelina would own the part," said Ms Newmar, 74. "My industry friends tell me she has already made enquiries about the role. I can understand how it would pique her interest. Catwoman is Batman's one true love."
She added, "[Catwoman] is tremendously popular with women because she's both a heroine and a villainess."
Still, many readers have already expressed their doubts that Angelina could pull off the role, with many saying that if Halle Berry couldn't do it, why would Angelina be able to? Others still said that since taking on Brad Pitt and all her children, she's not as sexy as she used to be and wouldn't be suitable for the role. I think that she would view the role as a challenge, even though she's played similar characters before - Catwoman is an iconic role and the next Batman film will be a huge success, regardless of whether or not Jolie is on board.
Catwoman is one of Batman's most enduring love interests, and aside from Halle Berry has been played by Eartha Kitt, Lee Meriwether and Michelle Pfeiffer. Is Ange about to join the ranks? I'll keep you updated.
