Alba to Meet the Parents?

According to reports, Hollywood star Jessica Alba is in negotiations to join the cast of Little Fockers, the upcoming third installment of Ben Stiller's Meet the Parents franchise. If she's chosen for the film, which is scheduled for release next year, she'll be playing the role of a pharmaceutical rep whose sexiness causes problems for the male characters in the movie.
Little Fockers is, quite predictably, centred around Stiller's character Gaylord Focker and his wife Pam having a baby, and will pick up where 2004's Meet the Fockers left off. The first film in the series, Meet the Parents, which was released in 2000, was in my opinion the most original and funny, and would have been best served as a stand-alone movie. After the rather disappointing sequel it's no surprise that Universal is wanting Alba to join the ranks of the Fockers, in order to appeal to male audiences at the very least.
Personally, I feel that this franchise has had its day, and that audiences are ready for something new. If Stiller and co. can come up with some intriguing and genuinely funny scenarios, rather than just relying on the same old formula, the third movie could well be a box office success... we'll just have to wait and see. Production of Little Fockers will begin in a few months' time, with or without Jessica Alba, and is set to hit the big screen in July 2010.
