A third Bridget Jones movie?
July 16th 2009 11:57
Speculation was rife last year that a third Bridget Jones movie was to be made, despite there being no third book by Helen Fielding to base it on. However, it seems that this time, the rumours are true: Working Title has confirmed that it has begun developing the film, set for release in 2011. Renee Zellweger is expected to reprise her role as the bumbling, lovable Bridget - and this time, she'll be trying for a baby.
Personally, I'm doubtful as to whether Zellweger would be willing to take on the role of Bridget yet again. Although she said last year that if a third movie "worked into my life and if it was worthwhile and was interesting I would do it", she has also expressed concerns for her health: the role requires her to gain a considerable amount of weight, which is a tall order for someone as naturally petite as Zellweger, and something that the Oscar winner struggled with while making the first two movies.
There's also the possibility that audiences have had enough of Bridget, but with Bridget Jones's Diary and its sequel, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason grossing a combined $US482 million at the box office, chances are that they'd be willing to embrace her for a third outing. No writer or director has been assigned to the project yet, as it is still in its very early stages, but insiders are already anticipating that Hugh Grant and Colin Firth will be making a return to the franchise as well. I'll keep you updated.

I wouldn't be too concerned. I know a 'tough guy' who cried watching The Notebook. Enough said!
